You could be someone's second chance at life.

For many patients with blood cancer or blood disorders, a matching blood stem cell donor offers hope for a second chance at life. That donor could be you.

Every hour someone in South Africa is diagnosed with blood cancer

Someone is searching for a matching donor. Could it be you?
Every day, people living with blood cancer and blood disorders search for a matching blood stem cell donor. For many, a transplant offers their best chance of survival. Only around 30% of patients find a matching donor within their family. Others depend on unrelated donors who may be their only match. By joining the DKMS Africa donor registry, you could give someone a second chance at life.

Only 30% of patients are able to find a compatible donor in their family.

Stem cell donation
In South Africa, blood stem cells are collected from the bloodstream through a procedure called apheresis. This involves taking stem cells directly from the bloodstream and this is done as an outpatient and it does not require surgery. Our medical team will explain the preparation and procedure
Your stem cells reach the patient
Your collected blood stem cells are transported to the transplant centre, where they are given to the patient to help rebuild their blood-forming system.
A second chance at life
Your donation could give someone living with blood cancer or a blood disorder a second chance at life. DKMS Africa will continue to support you after your donation through our 10 year medical follow-ups and ongoing care.
