Mangaliso collapsed while on his way to the doctor with his mother last year in February which prompted a hospital instead. At the hospital, initial tests revealed that his little body had dangerously low blood levels. He was then transferred to another hospital, where doctors suspected pneumonia. Further testing brought the devastating diagnosis of Fanconi Anaemia.

For Mangaliso’s mother, life changed completely. She had to leave her job to accompany him to his frequent hospital visits. "I wanted to be there for him at every visit, to hear about his condition first-hand and not from someone else," she shares.

The counselling she received from the hospital has been her anchor, offering strength and hope during this challenging journey. "This experience has taught me to be strong, no matter how hard it gets," she says. But she worries about her son’s future. "How will he attend school next year when he’s constantly in the hospital, often admitted without notice?"

Her plea is heartfelt, "all I ask is for people to register and help my son so he can live like other healthy children."
