Livert, a 20-year-old Electrical Engineering student from Shongwe in Mpumalanga, has been diagnosed with Fanconi Anaemia. Now, his survival depends on finding a matching stem cell donor. Help this young man potentially lead a long and healthy life by registering to become a stem cell donor
In 2018, Livert started experiencing excessive nosebleeds that became increasingly worse, sometimes lasting for days. He felt nauseous, tired, and weak, with a persistent flu. After countless doctor’s visits, Livert (then 16) was diagnosed with Fanconi Anaemia.
Since 2020, his routine includes an eight-hour roundtrip monthly journey for check-ups at Steve Biko Hospital, where he receives blood transfusions when necessary. Despite these challenges, Livert has found some comfort in this routine.
Despite the support of his parents and four siblings, coping with his illness has been tough. “I’m no longer able to do the things I used to enjoy, things I took for granted. Even playing a short soccer game with friends is difficult for me,” he says.
If you would like to help Livert and others in a similar position, register to become a lifesaver.
Remember, all costs related to the donation process are taken care of by DKMS Africa. You will not be asked to pay for anything.
