A lifesaving donation - Theresa’s story

After attending a Cape Town Carols event, Theresa became a registered donor and soon learned she was a perfect match for a patient in need of a transplant. Now, she encourages others to consider how simple it is to make a life-changing difference.

Cape Town, 01 October 2024 - A mother of twins, wife and an auditor by profession, Theresa’s story to becoming a lifesaver started at a Cape Town Carols event in 2022 where she was curious to find out about the donation process. Thinking it would be a horror story, she was comforted by our donor recruiters who thoroughly explained the next steps. A few months after registering, Theresa was found to be a match for a patient in need of a life-saving transplant- a call she answered with no hesitation. Expressing excitement and gratitude at finding out she was a perfect match for a patient, Theresa, her message to other potential donors is simple, “Someone out there is waiting on you, and you could be their only hope. It’s an easy process, far easier than you’d expect”.

“The idea of helping someone in such a simple way made the decision effortless," she shares. "In a world where we should all look out for each other, this is a great way to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, and their family.”
